Big ears" card Basilica of Vézelay

There are several possible interpretations for this sculpture. At the time the abbey church was built, Vézelay was a Benedictine monastery. The prologue to the rule of Saint Benedict begins with " Listen, my son, my daughter, to the precepts of the Inner Master and incline the ear of your heart ... "

The "big ears" (or Panoti) on the tympanum in the front nave of the Basilica are an invitation to the pilgrims of the time, and to today's visitors, to do the same.
