Looking and drawing
Watching is not a matter of course ...
The "Looking and Drawing" workshop in the Basilica of Vézelay is an invitation to penetrate the work of the builders by the sketch.
Participation in this workshop does not require no particular drawing skills. His aim is not a graphic performance, but to use line as a means of exercising the eye so that "all those with eyes can see clearly...". - Van Gogh.
Steps
From the outset, it's all about seeing and receiving... As soon as you enter the building, the light and its play of space welcome you.
The polychrome of the stones, the élan of a perspective, the detail of the plant ornamentation, the fine pleating of a sculpted drape, a craftsman's mark engraved on the floor... will catch your attention.
They can be words for your eyes, inspiration for your hand.
So take the time to listen, and you'll get a lasting impression.
Then the work can begin: let the hand retrace the shapes, the lines, the curves, the planes of light and shadow...
Between the eyes and the hand, a conversation is born; the first lines appear, poetry is in the air.
At the end of the workshop, all the sketches will be pooled to exchange views and impressions.
Course
- Introduction to the experience with a guide who takes into account the first discovery already made in the basilica
- Choosing the subject you want your drawing to convey
- Personal work in the basilica for around three-quarters of an hour
- Pooling work at the Visitor Centre
- Conclusion with a discussion between participants
